SEStran and Tactran back Tay Bridge Park & Ride

Date : 16th June 2010

The SEStran and Tactran boards have approved a report that recommends developing a Park & Ride site to the south of the Tay Bridge.

SEStran and Tactran, in partnership with Transport Scotland commissioned consultants Scott Wilson to carry out a business case analysis for the project and further study into the project’s technical feasibility.

After looking at two possible scenarios; one for 458 spaces and another for 350, it was concluded that both options offered significant benefits with the 350 space option providing the best value for money.

The partner organisations will now seek funding to take the project forward.

SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie, and Tactran Chair, Will Dawson, have issued a joint statement:

"This area will benefit enormously from the development of a park and ride site to serve the Tay Bridge. The need for such a development  has been identified by both SEStran and Tactran as a priority in our Regional Transport Strategies (RTS,). It is also recognised as being of strategic importance in the Government’s Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR)".

"The development will be an asset for both Fife and Dundee.  Residents of north-east Fife will benefit by having an alternative to parking in Dundee centre and reduced traffic growth on the Tay Road Bridge. It will also complement traffic changes in Dundee city centre and any traffic increase that may occur subsequent to the imminent redevelopment of Dundee Waterfront". "By anticipating demand now, we can help alleviate congestion problems in the future and assist Dundee's economic development.
