Regional Transport Strategy
The development of the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS) was an historic opportunity to plan for the needs of 1.5 million people living in Scotland''s most economically vibrant region. It is a blueprint for transport development in South East Scotland for the 21st century, which will form the core of our work for the next 15 years.
The Strategy lays out our vision for the strategic development of transport in SE Scotland up to 2028. It includes a particular focus on links to and from Edinburgh, as the economic hub of the region.
By its nature the RTS is an ever-evolving strategy, but the key aims and objectives will remain at the heart of SEStran''s work.
The RTS has four key objectives:
- Economy: to ensure transport facilities encourage growth, regional prosperity and vitality in a sustainable manner.
- Accessibility: to improve accessibility for those with limited transport choice or no access to a car; particularly those living in rural areas.
- Environment: to ensure that development is achieved in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Safety & Health: to promote a healthier and more active SEStran area population.
