Development of a Strategic Urban Cycle Network : Study Report

The development of urban cycle networks that facilitate commuter cycling in the urbanised SEStran area is a high priority of the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS). Urban Cycling Strategy finalStudy Report Background Paper 2.pdf

Safe and direct cycle routes should be parallel to the main traffic flows. This study focuses on cycle routes and facilities that are in parallel with the Regional Transport Commuter Corridors as defined in the RTS.

Within those corridors, urban areas deemed to be relevant for investigation were those with a population greater than 10,000 people.

Development of a Strategic Urban Cycle Network - A strategy for investment

SEStran’s vision is that new cycling infrastructure will be given equal status with the provision of new infrastructure for other road users, particularly motor vehicles.

The improvement and maintenance of existing cycle facilities will also be afforded the same consideration as given to improving conditions for other road users.
