SEStran welcomes Audit Scotland’s report on the National Concessionary Travel Scheme (NCT). It raises a number of issues about the initial appraisal and management of the scheme; the procurement of relevant technology; the extent to which the NCT achieves government objectives; the cost of the scheme and estimated future growth in patronage and costs.

Audit Scotland suggests a number of alternative approaches to the NCT in order to address the future sustainability of what is a popular scheme amongst users.

SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said:

“SEStran welcomes this review and we commend Audit Scotland for addressing a number of difficult issues relating to the NCT scheme. These issues need to be addressed as part of the measures government must consider, while seeking to achieve the spending cuts the country faces during this period of recession.
