SEStran celebrated National Liftshare week 2010 with a major campaign to boost the membership of TripshareSEStran. A month long campaign in October, in partnership with Radio Forth succeeded in attracting 211 new members to the scheme, which now boasts over 5800 members.

As part of the campaign, one lucky member stood to win an i-pad, if they shared a journey in the month of October. The eventual winner was  former Nurse Jane Muirhead, who works as a Risk Facilitator at Royal Infirmary Edinburgh  (RIE). Jane, a long standing member of  TripshareSEStran, regularly travels from her home in Kinross to work in Edinburgh and believes that her commute would be almost impossible without the car sharing option.

 Jane Muirhead said :

When I first moved to Kinross, my options were to drive to work in Edinburgh or use public transport,  which didn’t really fit in with my work pattern.  I was considering a move back to Edinburgh when a colleague suggested Tripshare”.

“To my delight, I was very quickly connected with someone who makes the same journey. Because I am now travelling to work at a time that suits me, both my work and home life have benefitted.” “The i-pad is a great suprise and quite unexpected. I will have a great weekend learning how to use it.”

SEStran Chair   Russell Imrie added :

“The campaign to attract new members to TripshareSEStran was a huge success; the most successful October on record since the launch of the scheme. We are now well on the way to reaching the 6000 mark for membership before the end of the year”.

“However, Scotland is lagging behind EU states where routine car sharing is far more common.  If we are to successfully tackle congestion and pollution in the region, we need to convince far more people to consider it as a viable travel option!”.

“If all of us shared a journey just one day a week it would take 20% of the cars off our roads. That’s a lot less congestion and a lot less carbon going into the atmosphere”.
