If you are still feeling guilty when looking in the mirror after that Christmas blow-out, there’s no need to diet, or dust off that gym membership. Why not get on your bike and start training for SE Scotland’s biggest all-abilities cycle ride?

Now entering its 6th successful year, the 2 Capitals Cycle Ride from Dunfermline to Edinburgh is the biggest all-abilities cycle event in South East Scotland. The ride, which aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take up cycling for fun, exercise and as a form of transportation for shorter journeys is sponsored by SEStran, in partnership with Kingdom FM and Maggie’s. Kingdom Kids and Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres are the events nominated charities.

 SEStran Chair Russell Imrie said:

“The 2 Capitals Ride is now well established as one of the biggest cycle events in the region and a firm favourite during bike week. We are delighted that Kingdom FM and Maggie’s are our event partners once again.  Kingdom FM’s Breakfast Presenter, Ian Gilmour, and Over Drive presenter, Darren Stenhouse, are already training hard for the big day”.

“Last year’s event attracted more than 350 participants. This year we are hoping to top that by clearing the 500 mark”.

“If more people take up cycling, it will help tackle congestion on the region’s roads and contribute towards reducing our carbon footprint. If we want to keep the region moving, the more people who take up cycling as a form of transport for shorter journeys the better.  It’s great exercise – and it’s fun”.

Tumong Edwards, Community Fundraiser for Maggie's Fife added:

Maggie’s is delighted to be one of the nominated charities for the 2 Capitals Cycle Ride.  This is a brilliant event which runs from Fife to Edinburgh, where we have cancer caring centres.  We hope people will take part, get fit and help raise funds for people living with cancer.

Kingdom FMs Ove Drive Presenter, Darren Stenhouse, said :

"Kingdom FM is pleased that the Two Capital Cycle Ride have chosen Kingdom Kids to be one of the key beneficiaries from this years event, once again Ian and I can't wait to get on our bikes for charity and we might even beat our time from last year you never know!"

Transportation to the Start line at Dunfermline Glen for riders and their bicycles is available from Ocean Terminal. Transportation to return Fife based riders to Dunfermline will be provided later in the day.
