The 2012 SEStran Megacycle has once again exceeded expectations, with over 500 people talking part in this year’s event.
The 20 mile ride from Penicuick to Musselburgh race course has become a well-established part of the cycling year in South East Scotland, and one of the region’s most popular all-abilities events
SEStran Chair Russell Imrie said:
“The Megacycle has truly come of age. Many participants came back for the fourth time this year and many new riders also joined in. It’s marvellous to see so many new faces taking part in an event that aims to encourage people of all abilities to give cycling a try”.
“Cycling is both a low impact form, of exercise, suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, and a good way of getting around for shorter journeys. It also contributes towards reducing traffic congestion and the regions carbon footprint”.
Event Organiser, Quintin Young, who founded the original Megacycle added :
“The weather gave us a few anxious moments just before the start , but the rain held off and most people completed the course dry”.
“It was good to see so many familar faces at the event, but we also had a very high number of newcomers turning up on the day, which pushed our numbers well up on last year. We’ll take a breather now and see how well we have done for the Sick Kids, then get started on planning for next year”.
