SEStran is making the design files for its successful Thistle Assistance Card available to appropriate local authorities and transport organisations at no charge.

The card, which is supported by a wide range of local and national voluntary organisations in South East Scotland and by most bus operators, is designed to make using public transport easier for older people or those with illness or mobility problems.

It is credit-card sized and comes with a supply of peel-off stickers, which advise the driver of the passenger’s mobility problem and the help they may need in an easy-to-read format.

Partnership Director Alex Macaulay said:

“SEStran designed the card in consultation with our Equalities Forum, to ensure that the design was as clear and easy to use as possible. Local bus operators in South East Scotland have cooperated with its introduction by providing suitable training for their drivers and we believe that it is a useful contribution towards increasing access for travellers with mobility problems”.

“Thousands of the cards have been made available through appropriate outlets throughout the region and there has been considerable interest from organisations in other areas of the country”.

“Improving access to transport is one of SEStran’s key aims and we are happy to make the files available to suitable organisations, so that they can use them as a basis to develop their own versions. The more commonly recognised the cards and symbols become throughout the country the more useful they will be to travellers”.

The files will be made available on application, through a password access system upon application to SEStran
