SEStran welcomes the Transport Infrastructure & Climate Change Committee Report backing the development of high speed rails links with London, as vital for the future development of the Scottish economy.
Studies have shown that high-speed lines out of Scotland will create the largest speed improvements. Therefore, they will achieve the largest modal shift from air to rail travel, as people take advantage of new and improved journey times.
SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said:
“We fully agree that creation of a high speed network must also include Scotland from the outset. Scotland is already peripheral in the European context and this can only be beneficial to Scotland’s economy and future prosperity”.
