Date: 23rd March 2009
The countdown has begun to this year’s SEStran two Capitals Cycle ride.
Now in its third year, the event is the biggest all-age all-abilities ride of its kind in South East Scotland and will be finale of Bike Week within the region.
The 26 Mile course starts in Dunfermline, Scotland’s ancient Capital, and ends in Edinburgh. All participants will receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag. No times will be taken and there are no prizes for speed. However, all participants will have the chance to win a bicycle in our prize draw.
SEStran Chair Russell Imrie said:
“SEStran is branding the Two Capitals ride as part of our commitment towards promoting cycling for all. It’s not a race – just a fun day out for all the family. You don’t need to be a super athlete or own an expensive bicycle. Just come along on the day and give it a try”.
“If more people take up cycling, it will help tackle congestion on the region’s roads. It will also contribute towards reducing our carbon footprint. If we want to keep the region moving, the more people who take up cycling as a form of transport for shorter journeys the better. Its great exercise – and its fun”
.Allan Prentice, of Prentice Events, who established the ride, added:
“During the first couple of years, we have had just about the worst weather possible – high winds, torrential rain and it was freezing cold, yet still over 300 people turned up and completed the ride. This year we are hoping to double that”.
“You can log onto our new website at www.twocapitals.org and enter online or download the form and post it to us with an SAE. Transport is available for riders and their cycles to the start point in Dunfermline from Edinburgh, and again back to Dunfermline afterwards. All proceeds from the ride will go towards supporting cycling in schools”.
