Date: 03rd June 2009
SEStran is celebrating National Liftshare day with an appeal for more motorists to consider car sharing as a travel option. Already over 5000 people across South East Scotland have signed up with TripshareSestran.com to share some of their car journeys.
This year, all new members who register before 30th June will be entered for a free prize draw in which they can win a state of the art sat-nav system, a go-green car service or a luxury car care kit to keep their vehicles in top condition.
Car sharing offers Tripshare member’s real financial savings on fuel, parking charges and wear and tear on their cars, as well as helping to tackle congestion and reduce pollution. Typically, members can expect to save an average of over £1000 a year through participation in the scheme.
The service is free and confidential. Members can store their details securely, with only travel details accessible to other participants. Women can specify female-only travel companions and members can select individual preferences; such as smoking or non-smoking.
SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said:
“TripshareSEStran continues to go from strength to strength. A growing number of people are realising that car sharing is a sensible commuting option that offers them real benefits. We are well on target for exceeding 6000 members by the end of 2009. That means thousands fewer cars on the roads, less congestion and a smaller carbon footprint for South East Scotland.
“To celebrate Liftshare day, we decided to offer something that would reward new members in a sustainable way. The Sat-nav will help commuters choose the quickest, cheapest, route to their destination, while the Go-Green service will ensure that their vehicle’s environmental impact is kept to a minimum. Meanwhile the car-care kits will keep the winners vehicles in top condition.”
