SEStran invests in Urban Cycling

SEStran is making £50, 000 in match funding available to local authorities in South East Scotland, to enable them to implement projects aimed at developing a strategic urban cycle network throughout the region.

The move follows publication of SEStran’s Urban Cycling Network Strategy in October 2009, which lays out a long-term plan for the development of urban cycle networks that will facilitate commuter cycling in the urbanised SEStran area.

These are given a high priority in SEStran’s Regional Transport Strategy (RTS), which is a template for the development of a sustainable transportation system for South East Scotland.

SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said:

 

“This initiative is in line with government priorities, which place walking followed by cycling as the highest priorities in urban areas, followed by public transportation and cars”.

 

“It is also in accordance with the high priority which SEStran gives to cycling within our Regional Transport Strategy.”
