Date: 16th June 2010
There’s only four days left to sign up for the Two Capitals Cycle Ride
The ride, which takes place on Sunday 20th June, will be among the first events to take place in South East Scotland during bike week.
Over 300 hundred people have already signed up to tackle the 21 mile route, which starts at Dunfermline Glen, before taking in the iconic Forth Road Bridge, and following the coast along Edinburgh’s shoreline, ending in Leith’s Victoria Park.
This year the event, which aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take up cycling for fun, exercise and as a form of transportation for shorter journeys is being run in partnership with Kingdom FM and Maggies.
Kingdom Kids and Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres are the rides nominated charities.
All participants receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag.
SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said:
“We are delighted that so many people have signed up to take part in the ride. I am optimistic that by the end of the week we will have broken through the 400 barrier and The Two Capitals Cycle Ride will have established itself, yet again, as South East Scotland’s biggest all-abilities cycling event".
“The forecast says that we can expect good weather for the event, so participants can look forward to a fun ride on a fine day. People are welcome to come along and sign up on the day itself, so don’t miss out if you haven’t had time to sign up online”.
Kingdom FM’s Breakfast Presenter, Ian Gilmour, and Overdrive presenter, Darren Stenhouse, have been training hard for the big day :
Darren said:
“I’d encourage anyone who is thinking about signing up for the 2 Capitals Bike Ride to take the plunge. Cycling is a great way to get around and it doesn’t even feel like exercise – most of the time! The atmosphere on the day will be great with like minded individuals working together to raise funds for some great charities”
Tumong Edwards, community fundraiser for Maggie’s Fife, added:
“I am pleased that so many people have registered for the event, the distance is really manageable, but is still a good challenge”.

Transportation to the starting point and back to Dunfermline afterwards for riders and cyclists is bookable in advance.
