SEStran extends sustainable travel awareness funding
Date : 9th June 2010
Following the success of our 2009 Travel Plan Grant Scheme for local authorities and health boards, SEStran is opening up the scheme to applicants from the public, private and voluntary sector.
The new scheme; the SEStran Sustainable and Active Travel Grant is open to any organisation which is seeking to promote sustainable travel through a travel plan.
A Travel Plan is a package of measures aimed at promoting sustainable travel within an organisation. They can be used by organisations of all sizes and can help reduce the impact of travel on the environment, reduce costs to business and improve the accessibility of an organisation.
Grants of up to £5,000 pounds are available, dependent upon the applicant providing the equivalent in match funding. Preference will be given to applications from organisations where a travel plan has already been drawn up, or a detailed travel survey has been carried out.
SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said:
“Following the success of the previous grant scheme it makes sense to extend funding to a wider range of organisations. Travel, plans help promote active travel, such as cycling and walking for shorter journeys, as well as car sharing and the use of public transport. They not only help save organisations money and make them more accessible; they can also make a major contribution towards cutting congestion in the region and helping to improve public health.”
