The Bustracker project was developed by City of Edinburgh Council and Lothian Buses from 2002 with the aim of providing accurate and reliable real-time passenger information for bus services across the City. The state-of-the-art system uses a satellite tracking system to display minute-by-minute updates of bus times at stops across Edinburgh. To find out more about bus services in your area, click here SEStran has built upon the success of this project by extending it into East and Midlothian. Bustracker passenger information displays have now gone live at 13 sites in East Lothian and 40 sites in Midlothian. Extending Regional Real Time Passenger Information systems throughout SE Scotland |
|
|
In cooperation with our partnership authorities, SEStran aims to extend real-time bus passenger information throughout the region. SEStran has succeeded in obtaining European funding to deliver RTPI into rural areas of SE Scotland. The Scottish Government has also awarded over £600,000 to SEStran to roll out the first stage of the RTPI programme in the Borders and East Lothian, under round 2 of the 2007-13 Lowlands & Upland Scotland Programme. Added to match funding from SEStran and local authorities, this means that a total of £1,637,000 will be used to deliver RTPI information into rural areas, where bus services may be infrequent or intermittent. Provision of a suitable system is currently out to tender, with implementation due to begin early in 2010 |
