Improving access to healthcare within the region is a key goal of SEStran’s’ Regional Transport Strategy (RTS). SEStran’s Access to Healthcare Forum (AHF) includes representatives of 4 health boards and the Scottish Ambulance Service. The forum aims to improve access to health care for patients and staff across the region, through knowledge sharing and the innovative use of edge communications technology to improve patient access to healthcare in a cost effective manner.
Car sharing offers an affordable, practical and effective travel option where public transport is not easily available. It can be particularly useful for NHS employees, working shifts or unsocial hours, when public transport is less accessible or possibly non-existent.
SEStran’s Smarter Access to Healthcare Seminar gave participants an opportunity to see examples of best practice on using communications technology for health care access and consultation between health care professionals, travel planning and car sharing; on ways of maximising the effectiveness of car sharing schemes by actively promoting them, and offering incentives to car sharers. It also featured presentations illustrating examples of successful schemes from across the UK.
