The development of urban cycle networks that facilitate commuter cycling in the urbanised SEStran area is a high priority of the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS).

Safe and direct cycle routes should be parallel to the main traffic flows. This study focuses on cycle routes and facilities that are in parallel with the Regional Transport Commuter Corridors as defined in the RTS.

Within those corridors, urban areas deemed to be relevant for investigation were those with a population greater than 10,000 people.
