What a way to end Liftshare week this October! On Friday night (6th October 2017) Tripshare was awarded the Charted Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) AMCO Environmental Award 2017/18, it is great to see our car sharing project recognised for the benefits it brings to our environment.

Since the launch of Tripshare, members have saved 2,346 tonnes of CO2, 11,941,570 miles driven and over £1,220,000. Tripshare is a great way for commuters to save costs and reduce congestion on our roads. At SEStran our aim is to reduce the number of single occupancy car trips cross the South East of Scotland.

Car Sharing is also a great way to reduce costs of driving and can also reduce the need for car ownership – yes, you don’t even need to own your own car to car share. Many Tripshare members are happy to car share in return for a small contribution towards costs and some friendly company for their journey.

Car sharing has seen a great rise in popularity thanks to recent celebrity endorsements by James Corden and Peter Kay. Cordon, joined by a host of different celebrities, has made car sharing cool with his Carpool Karaoke whilst Kay injects humour into car sharing journeys in his BBC sitcom Peter Kay’s Car Share.

Lisa Freeman and George Eckton were happy to accept the award on behalf of the South East of Scotland Transport Partnership; Lisa Freeman said “We would like to thank the CIHT for this award, it is great to see the work we do being recognised but more importantly our thanks go to everyone in the Tripshare community, by getting involved they are the ones that make the difference!”

We are highlighting the benefits of Tripshare with our new 30 second advert running on STV in the South East of Scotland so why not sign up, join over 8,000 people and start your day with a Tripshare ‘pick-me-up’ help the environment and ease the congestion we see on our roads each day?
