MVA Consultancy was appointed by South East Scotland Transport Partnership (SEStran), East Lothian Council and Scottish Borders Council in 2012 to undertake further analysis with respect to the potential introduction of a new Edinburgh to Berwick-upon-Tweed local train service, together with the re-opening of stations at East Linton in East Lothian, and Reston in the Scottish Borders.

This report is the latest in a succession of studies which have considered new rail services in East Lothian and the eastern Borders.

This study therefore closely follows on from a previous study ‘Feasibility Study: Enhanced Rail Services between Edinburgh and Newcastle ’ undertaken for Transport Scotland and published in September 2011 (the ’2011 Study’), and considers in more detail the case for  Edinburgh to Berwick train services only.
